2011 Breast Cancer Walk
Y-ME Breast Cancer Walk - Chicago May 2011
C4YW - Orlando 2011: Annual Conference For Young Women Affected By Breast Cancer
When I was diagnosed I thought I was the only one so young affected by breast cancer. Clearly I was wrong. I went to the C4YW conference in Orlando this past Feb and met so many other women just like me. Although it is sad we all had to come together this way, it is comforting to know there are so many others like me. I even got the chance to share my story with everyone at the conference. What a great experience!! Looking forward to next year!
A Very Pink Christmas
The holidays are looking a little pinker this year. Yes that is a pink santa hat and a pink tree. Notice all the awesome pink ornaments? Breast Cancer ribbons included. Thanks Maryann for getting my pink holiday started!!
Cooking Pink Style
Thanks to Jessica, Jen, Amy, Erin, Jeff, and Amanda for the pink cooler full of fun pink stuff. I hope to put the pink to good use by making some delicious pink treats!!
Star Is At It Again!!
Star was back in action this month walking for Breast Cancer in the Pink Pooch Parade down in Texas. This year she won "Most Fashionable Furry Friend." The back of her dress says "Bark For A Cure." Thanks again Star for all your support!!
Halloween Pink Ladies
I can't take any credit for the creativity of the characters in this photo. Thank you to Maryann for the awesome "Halloween Pink Ladies" as I call them. I guess I can only take credit for the baldy in the middle (that would be me.) Otherwise, the guest stars of the photo come from a very special lady. I love celebrating Halloween with my new pink friends. Thank you SO MUCH Maryann!!
Sporting the Pink Bears Hat
I couldn't help it. I had to get the Bears Breast Cancer Awareness hat. It's the coach's hats that they wear on the sidelines during the month of October. I needed something to cover up the bald spots while watching the games. And soon there will be nothing there, so it works out even better!! Go Bears and thanks for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness!!
Jane's Cancer Ride Raised $2500 To Conquer Cancer
Here is my cousin Jane who raised $2500 to help conquer cancer. She's the one on the right. She and her friend did a 2 day, 140 mile bike ride in support of this. The trip was sponsored by Norton's Cancer Institute. The money raised and the bike ride is beyond impressive. It's truly amazing what people can do when they put their mind to it. So, just wanted to send a kudos to Jane for such an amazing accomplishment!!
Bear Down and Bald Out
Real Bears fans wear Pink and, evidently, go bald!! In case you are unsure, that's me on the right. Mom, Dad, and myself sporting the Bears Pink Tshirts to support Breast Cancer and Da Bears. Great shirts for a great cause and great bald heads too! Thanks Mom and Dad for supporting me with your shaved heads too. We will be wearing the pink shirts to support the Bears October 17th.
You know when you say: "That makes me so mad, I could just rip my hair out!" Well, at least when I say it, I mean it.
2010 BREAST CANCER WALK - MILWAUKEE
A Bald Callout
Thanks Dad for being the first bald member of our immediate family. I will be heading down this path starting on 9/30/10 but you beat me to it. Gotta say, baldness takes to you nicely!! Thanks for all your support and shaving your head in support of the next challenge I face. We can compare heads once my transformation is complete. Now, the question is, will this look stay or be temporary? I guess we will have to stay tuned to find out!!
Pink Golfing
Thank you Maryann for your unbelievable support and great sign!! Your creativity amazes me. I appreciate you thinking of me and only wish I could have been there to golf with you. Thanks so much!! Only thing missing from this photo is you.
Star
Introducing Star!! She is a big supporter of Breast Cancer. She is my cousin's beautiful dog. She resides in Texas and enjoys showing off how pretty she is and posing as you can see in this photo. This is Star in her award winning costume from last year's Baylor Hospital Annual Pink Pooch Parade. Her costume won first prize and and it's easy to see why. She's quite the celebrity in Texas and has been featured on three TV stations there along with being featured on the front page of a local newspaper. Thanks Star for helping the fight against Breast Cancer. This year, the walk is 10/6/10. I anxiously await to see her new outfit for the event!!
The Dragonfly
The Dragonfly visitor from Sunday is a little hard to see, but here he is. I thought he deserved to get a picture of himself on my blog. After all, I wrote a whole story about him.
Planning A New Look For Next Year's Vegas Trip
As most people know, the annual family trip to Vegas is one of the most important things on my list to do for the year. We go every August. This year was a little different as the trip took place less then a month after my diagnosis. I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to go at all, let alone if I did get to go, have fun. However, the trip was a go!! The whole family took a different approach this year and just did our best to put all our troubles behind us and enjoy the trip. I had my mom take this picture for one reason. It's my "before" picture. It's the last picture of me as I was before I started treatment. I'll always be the same on the inside but a little different on the outside. I use this picture as my motivation. Next August I plan to stand in that very same spot. I hope my smile is a tad bit bigger. I know my hair will be a bit shorter. And in terms of the other changes, well, I am hoping no one will notice. Stay tuned for Vegas - August 2011 and the "after" picture.
Where Am I Supposed to Rest and Recover??
There isn't much I can do these days. The number one rule I have been given is to just rest, don't move your arms too much and just don't do too much. Fine. I don't like the rule, but I accept it. I figure the more I do what I am told, the faster I will recover. So, I set up shop on the couch. I got up for one second and come back only to find a new patient has taken over. Guess someone else in the house feels the need to rest and recover too!!
